January update: Integration 2.0

We’ve spent a lot of time to work on how integrations are handled in Voluum, both in the back-end, as well in the front-end. The back-end changes make integrations work smoother and enable us to add new ones quicker. The changes in the UI allow users to create an integration when adding an integrated traffic source or affiliate network. More users that were previously unaware that a given traffic source supports integration can now take advantage of the Automizer.

Rest assured that everything else looks as before and you can still create integrations in Automizer or Voluum Settings.

Integration 2.0

The integration option is now available in new traffic source or affiliate network forms, provided that they support integration, and the integration wasn’t already created.

December Update: Traffic Stars integration is here!

The end of 2022 brought Traffic Stars to the family of integrated traffic sources. With this integration, you can unlock the usual perks of the integration: cost synchronization, auto-rules & managing your campaigns from within Voluum.

But that’s not all! With the upgraded GEO database, Voluum will more accurately propose the names of geographical locations in autocomplete, skipping dead locations (locations with no IP address matched). You can be now even more precise with Voluum!

Traffic Stars integration

To integrate with Traffic Stars, grab API key from your profile settings in Traffic Stars and go to Voluum.

  1. In Voluum, go to the Automizer / Traffic sources.
  2. Click ‘Add traffic source’.
  3. Select Traffic Stars from the list of integrated sources.
  4. Provide API key and click ‘Add integration’.

November update: UA Freeze & Client Hints plus a lot of small goodies

This month’s big announcement is support for Client Hints, a Google-developed solution that partially replaces User Agent. Platforms like Voluum use information from User Agent to get an additional layer of data (such as deice type, browser version, etc.) and power some of its features (rule-based paths, for example).

Google’s push to switch from using User Agent to Client Hints forced us to develop a solution that ensures that all Voluum users will keep the same level of functionality that they grew accustomed to. Long story short: tracking will still work even on browsers with reduced User Agent strings.

As a bonus, we’ve also added a feature that allows you to use a coloring scheme for certain custom columns.

UA Freeze & Client Hints

Voluum can use data from both sources: user agent (if it is not reduced) or client hints, depending on how a visitor’s web browser supports these technologies. If user agent is not reduced and only default (low entropy) clients hints are available, we will use user agent. In other cases: client hints.

For redirect tracking: no action is required, the changes affected only Voluum’s backend. Voluum will perform an additional redirect to get client hints if necessary.

For direct tracking: a new version of the Direct tracking script has been developed. This version contains ‘meta tag’, which is responsible for getting visitor data if UA string is reduced. The new version of Direct tracking script needs to be implemented in the <head> section of the web page. If you have used Direct tracking before, please update your script.

Custom columns coloring

The latest update to Custom columns introduces coloring option to monetary and percentage column types. If you enable this option, negative values in these column types will be highlighted in red and positive values will be highlighted in green.

October update: Integration account name and traffic type

For all the creative marketers that use tens of ad accounts in TikTok or Google, we have developed a solution that allows you to name each integrated account in a meaningful way. This way you won’t be just looking at a column full of ‘TikTok’ accounts, you will know which integration is which.

Another thing we added is the ‘Traffic type’ option available when setting up a campaign. This will help you sort and organize campaigns by the traffic type you use.

Integration account name

You can provide the name of the integration when creating a new one or editing an existing one.

Select the type of traffic from the drop-down menu. You can choose between:

  • Pop
  • Native
  • Search
  • Push
  • Banner
  • Mail
  • SMS
  • Video
  • Social

To view this value in the report, just group by ‘Traffic type’.

September update: Mondiad integration

To continue our tradition of adding popular traffic sources to Voluum Automizer, we would like to introduce the integration with Mondiad. This integration enables deep control of your Mondiad campaigns: pausing or resuming whole campaigns, sub ID or zone IDs and changing bids for campaigns, sub IDs, zone IDs and countries. You can do this either manually from the Voluum panel or via the auto-rules.

There are also a lot of works under the hood that you can’t see but will surely improve the comfort of your work!

July update: Welcome the eCPA metric

We’ve added a new and heavily requested metric to reports. eCPA (effective cost per action) allows you to see how much you pay for a single user action, such as click on an ad. This is useful if you use other cost models, such as CPM. eCPA metric is available in reports and on charts.

To use the new eCPA metric, turn on the eCPA column:

Once you do so, the eCPA metric will be visible in reports and charts:

May update: Facebook actions

We have great news for all marketers working with Facebook. Until recently, you could use the integration with Facebook to synchronize costs with Voluum and pass conversion information to Facebook. It was already a big deal.

Now, the most recent update to the Automizer lets you pause and resume your Facebook campaigns within Voluum. You can even create auto-rules that do just that!

Facebook actions

From May 2022, you can pause and resume your integrated Facebook campaigns using:

  • Voluum interface
  • Auto-rules

You can set auto-rules using any launch conditions. Campaigns will be paused or resumed when these conditions are met.

April update: Futureproof direct tracking & much more!

One of the biggest updates of the year brings you the new direct tracking scripts that can allow you to design and track the campaign funnel you have always wanted. These scripts allow for navigation between pages within the context of a single visit. Direct people to your store’s main page (or product category page), allow visitors to navigate between pages when browsing products, track the click on the CTA button – and all this will be counted as a single visit in Voluum!

What is more, these scripts use cookies that refer to domains of your landing or offer pages, not your tracking domain, which means that these cookies will always be treated as first-party ones – and therefore not blocked!

Lastly, as a part of this update, a conversion tracking script has been modified to read those first-party cookies. You can track conversions on your own pages knowing that even when Google Chrome finally starts blocking third-party cookies, you will be on the safe side.

That’s not the only thing that we have worked on. Enjoy a better calendar that allows you to compare any time periods, even if their length is different or these periods overlap.

For more advanced users, we’ve added an option to track offers that were not added to Voluum – and attribute those visits to an offer that is in Voluum.

Direct tracking scripts update

Since April 2022, both direct tracking scripts have been modified in the following ways:

  • They set cookies both in a domain that you use for tracking and in a domain of a landing page (lander tracking script) or offer (offer tracking script)
  • Lander tracking script enables using subpages between a landing page (a page where a visitor ‘lands after clicking the ad) and a page with click URLs. Both of these pages require lander tracking script
  • Offer tracking script enables first-party cookie conversion tracking. If you want to track conversions with a Conversion tracking script, you should put Offer tracking script on an offer page, even if you have a landing page in a funnel. It sets a first-party cookie with click ID information that will be read by a Conversion tracking script. You also need to pass click ID information in an offer URL using any parameter name.

Scripts used before April 2022 will continue to work. However, we recommend updating scripts to the newest version to ensure the smoothest experience.

Read the Track Multistep Funnels with a Direct Method article to learn more.

Track offers outside funnel setup

This feature enables tracking of various offers that were not added to Voluum. This may be useful for some cases:

  • You have a lot of offers but you don’t need to track each of them individually
  • You have offers with auto-generated URLs

In these cases, you should add an offer that all visits will be attributed to to Voluum and grab the Offer tracking script.

Then you have to modify it to include this offer’s ID. Detailed instructions can be found in the Track Offer Visits Without Funnel Setup article.

Lastly, you put the same modified Offer tracking script on all offer pages that you want to track.

Note that this setup only works for funnels that don’t use landing pages.

Compare any time periods

Until this update, you could only compare data from time periods of the same length. For example, last week to the one before that.

From now on, you can compare data from any time periods: first 3 days of March to the second week in April.

You can see changes in columns, as well as on the chart. See the Getting Started With Reports Step 3: Comparing Changes article for more details.

March update: Grouping by conversions for offer owners!

That’s right, since March you can easily see user’s journey by viewing all activities tied to a concrete click ID. This is especially useful for offer owners or ecommerce store owners. You can also group events by various postback parameters, so read more below!

There are also further Automizer improvements that allow you to set bids as a percentage of a given column. Plus, a support for multiple external IDs in a traffic source form.

Group by Conversions

This feature allows you to group within one or multiple campaigns by the following elements:

  • Click ID
  • External ID
  • Param 1-5
  • Transaction ID

What this means is that you can see the whole visitor journey. For example, all event tied to a click ID:

More specifically, you can:

  • Track single users within one campaign
  • Track a user across multiple campaigns using external ID or other postback parameters (param1 – param5)
  • See all conversions within a single campaign by custom variables

Visit our article to learn how to use this feature.

Set bids as % of a column in Automizer.

This feature allows you to create a rule where you tie bids with a percentage value of a given column.

Support for multiple external IDs

In some cases, you need to record more than one external IDs. For example, it can be used for passing wbraid/gbraid to internal system or analytics.

Just create a new traffic source and click the Add external ID button.
